ABOUT

Welcome to 1 Can Para

Founded over 30 years ago, we became a non profit in 2002. We marched with the veterans of 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in the annual Canadian National Exhibition Warriors Day Parade until the veterans association disbanded.

As a Living History Reenactment Unit, the “Headquarters Company, 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion” members interpret the battalion with the endorsement of the Canadian veterans themselves.

We reenact the unit so others might understand a relatively unknown fighting force that received little attention. Our mission is to portray the battalion and educate the public accurately at WW2 events and activities. By doing so we honor the veterans who served, and Can Para helps keep he history of this period alive.

While a few of our people are Canadian, many members joined Can Para because they are interested in World War II history and interpretation. Note that Americans served in the unit also.

Our members come from a variety of backgrounds; teachers, civil servants, retirees, police officers, students, engineers, former military, hockey afficionados and a few other avocations. We enjoy sharing information, answering questions, and portraying the generation that fought fascism in the Second World War.

Generally our membership comes from the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States we have members further South and a section further North in New England.  There are separate groups located in Ontario as well.

Please come out and see us at a Living History event.

We can always use some more red berets to help people remember our veterans legacy.
